Gig Harbor Local works

I was the lead for 2 important Shows that celebrated the History of Gig Harbor- The first featured "Netsheds in Gig Harbor"- our iconic and unique structures that dot the shoreline. (We actually took a boat tour to get access to photograph some!). The second Show celebrated some of the oldest Historic Building in the Greater Gig Harbor area.

Apricot Morning

Apricot Morning

a "Finholm District" view to Rainier and the Bay. We get great sunrises here! I did this from a photo in the Demo Tent at Peninsula Art Leagues Summer Art Festival on Judson St.

No Moorage

No Moorage

Featuring the side of the iconic Blue Skansie Netshed at Noon at Low tide. I like the sign the proclaimed the obvious...

Fishermans Memorial

Fishermans Memorial

Near the Guest Dock is this statue with a Memorial placque for local Fishermen lost at sea. We had a group paint out and Bill McEnroe challenged me to add more "crazy colors" to the trees! He did like my statue tho...

Transferring the Nets

Transferring the Nets

This was a piece included in the big Netshed Art Show at the Harbor History Museum. It shows why Netsheds have the waterside "porch"- to help Gig Harbor fishermen take nets on and off their boats.Done with Water Miscible Oils.

View to the Lighthouse

View to the Lighthouse

Across the narrow bay channel is a small Light to help boaters who arrive after dark. Painted in oils

Harbor History Museum

Harbor History Museum

The Harbor History Museum had been just finished at the NW end of the Bay. It hosts an old fishing boat being restored and has interesting historic information and exhibits inside. It was a warm red on a cool day & the buildings simple classic shape drew me in.

Donkey Creek Daylight

Donkey Creek Daylight

Donkey Creek used to be confined to a culvert- I wonder why the salmon were not coming home? Now that the road has a bridge and the area is "daylighted", we hope for better results. I painted this with oils "en plein air" one Fall. It was in a PAWA Show.

Eddon Boat Shop (1)

Eddon Boat Shop (1)

This quint building was a Boat building facility that is still in use in the Harbor. It was home to the Thunderbird plywood sailboat "back in the day". There's still projects going on inside. I had fun painting it- and it was purchased by a descendant of the original owners.

Waiting for the ways and means

Waiting for the ways and means

Eddon Boat Shop from the water side before they were able to install new "ways" to get big boats out of the water. This ia painted with oils and is in a local collection.

Crescent Creek Estuary

Crescent Creek Estuary

At the North corner of Gig Harbor bay is a great small park and lovely estuary. Mudflats are remarkably pretty, I think!

Ansich shed

Ansich shed

Right next to the Canoe Club- the refurbished Ansich Shed looks great. Done with oils on a overcast morning

Updated shed

Updated shed

This Net Shed was approved for an update and looks quite smart with the verdigris roof and new stainless cable railing. Oils on stretched Canvas.

Netshed Cluster

Netshed Cluster

If you wander SE from Harborview, you'll find an overlook to the old ferry dock and a cluster of net sheds and houses along that shore. I painted this in oils while talking to folks who were exploring too.

Inside Skansie Netshed

Inside Skansie Netshed

I was granted access to the inside of Scansie Netshed and painted oil on Carton (a resin finished brown board) of one corner of the interesting things housed within.

Stanich Study

Stanich Study

A very quick pastel study of Stanich Netshed which is actually a great place to rent a kayak or SUP- I loved all the colors!

Arabella's Netshed

Arabella's Netshed

Netshed #10 by Arabella's Landing done in pastel. This Image was used for the postcard for the big Netshed Show at Harbor History Museum.

Conestoga Barn

Conestoga Barn

On the North side of the bay near the boat launch is the "Conestoga" roofed barn that you can see from Anthony's Restaurant.

The near Eddon dock they provide Kid's Life vests to use while visiting the dock. It was a gray day and I was attracted to the color!
